Last Tool


1. What are your favorite tools you now have in your personal technology toolbox? Briefly describe a particular activity that you will plan for your students using at least one of these new tools. 
GoogleDocs - students can write speeches here and they will be able to work on them from any computer. 
DropBox- students can work/pictures when working in groups
Glogster- making posters for projects
Word Cloud Websites- reviews
Stupeflix- short movies for projects
makebelievecomix.com- comics for projects
prezi- web maps for projects
I leave this board "for projects" statement because I like to give my students options in what project/visual aid to turn in. In one class period I could have one prezi, 2 stupeflixes, a comic, and 2 poster boards. What ever the students are comfortable with. 


2. How have you transformed your thinking about the learning that will take place in your classroom? How has your vision for your classroom changed? Are you going to need to make any changes to your classroom to accommodate the 21st Century learner?
After these 11 tools, I have realized how much I want to revamp and give my curriculum new life. I wanted to last year with the big technology push, but I was unsure in which direction to go and how to go about doing this. These new tools have given me insight of small changes that I can make to my curriculum to integrate more technology.  

3. Were there any unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
I am more surprised on how much I knew, but how much there is still left to explore and learn. 

Digital Citizenship


1. Discuss at least three things you would want to make sure your students understand about being good digital citizens. Being a good digital citizen is an important skill to learn to survive our digital world. I would want to make my students are aware of the things they post on their social networks. What you post on these websites will be out there FOREVER. Along with this I feel very strongly about anti-bullying on these websites too. No one should be made fun of in person, and online it could even be worse with constant notifications, post, text messages that can be sent from social media. The last thing I want to make sure my students know is that just because it is out on the internet DOES NOT mean that it is true. Anyone can post anything to the internet. My students need to make sure they are using credible sources when finding information. Then when they find credible sources they need to give credit to what they take, so they are not stealing someone else's work.

2. Share at least one of the resources mentioned above or on the Ed Tech website that you plan to use instructionally.
The Cool Cat teacher blog is some that I would and could use to instructionally. Not only do I like the digital citizenship blog I like the whole blog website itself. I think I could use this in other areas of my teaching as well.


3. Explain briefly how you would "teach" the idea of digital citizenship to your students.
Before we went to do our first research project I could teach the idea of digital citizenship. I am thinking of have students make a project, and have other students take credit for the hard work they did. This would have students understand that when you do site or credit your sources you are stealing other peoples research, thoughts, and ideas. Also, maybe an example of not believing everything you read on the internet. Then go into a discussion on how to look for credible sources on the internet. There are many other aspects of digital citizenship that I would like to cover (safety and bullying) but that does not necessarily relate to the lesson at hand.


4. Explain briefly how you plan to share the idea of digital citizenship with your parents. I would direct the parents to the Cool Cat Teacher blog and to the YouTube video about digital citizenship. I would give the parents many resources to show them about digital citizenship and let the parents know we would need to work together to inform students about how to conduct themselves out there on the world wide web.

Tool #9


  1. Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objective? It is important to tie technology in to the objective because I believe it holds the teacher accountable for teaching the technology to the students. Also it gives the teacher an outline to follow to know what is expected out of them each day, what they have planned for themselves. We need to teach students the technology and let them use the technology so they know how to use it correctly.
  2. Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers? I think if we had students document what they did at their station/center. I would then take a grade on what the student had accomplished in their station. Also, I would maybe have check points. Once they get to a checkpoint they would get a grade or a check, then all checks added up would equal a grade.
  3. Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations?
    The Studyladder website might be helpful in building vocabulary. There are also websites such as flashcardmachine.com that is solely dedicated to making flashcards to quiz students. I think if you had students write how many they got right, so raise their hand so you can write down how many they got right. I would not give them a grade on how many they got right or wrong, but just so you can see they are actually participating.
  4. List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? mprompt- is an app that turns your ipad into a telepromter. Students could practice speaking outloud in small groups to practice their eye contact and pronunciation.
    speakerclock- is a big clock that keeps time for the presenters. Can practice with this AND use this during presentations.
  5. What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. I think that my students could do research and use the news apps on the ipads. They would need to take notes and turn their notes in. Also they could use keynote to outline a powerpoint presentation which would also be taken for a grade. Even the activeboardapp could be used because they could control their presentation without having to look at the board the whole time. They would need to practice in stations. If they practiced it would show in their final presentation.

Tool #8

"After watching the videos/tutorials, list two to three things you learned about the device(s) that will be in your classroom this fall. How do you plan to manage the device(s) in your classroom? Do you have ideas/suggestions that others may find useful?"

I plan on using my ipad in the classroom through the activeboard apps, also by letting my students record each other when practicing for speeches. I think watching themselves could be really beneficial, so they can critique themselves and see on their own what they can improve on. I believe that we are getting some ipods (for debate). For the debate students, I think this could help them memorize their pieces. They could record themselves and put it on the ipod, then play it back to memorize.

I saw the suggestion to incorporate stations for the devices, and I think that is a great idea. I could see the benefits of using stations throughout the classroom and having a group of students work on speeches, while other research, and other write speeches, etc, etc. To manage my devices, of course, number one thing to do it monitor monitor montior, but then I stop a few minutes early to collect all electronics, so when the bell rings noone is walking away with an ipad or ipod.


Outside Classrooms Tool#7

Part of the TEKS objective in speech is not only giving speech but knowing and learning how to evaluate other speeches. Reaching across classrooms using Skype could be a way for my students to connect with classrooms in the district and around the country. I would have my students set up Skype and give their speech to the other classroom on Skype. The students would then evaluate my student. The other classrooms students would give a speech on Skype and my classroom students would then in return evaluate that student. This could happen anytime my students were giving speeches. Critical feedback is always important in giving speeches, it is how we improve.

Tool #6

"Share your thoughts on how you see the tools being integrated into your classroom. How do you see them encouraging participation?"

I have attached an example of a speech one of my students did last year and they sent this to me via GoogleDocs. Also I have embedded my poll everywhere poll in this blog post. I have discussed in earlier post how I could use GoogleDocs. Poll Everywhere is a tool that I have always wanted to try. I think could be a great way to evaluate what my students have learned for that day. This would be able to help me know what I will need to cover for the next day. Other tools in Tool#6 that could be helpful is twitter. I have my students create their own businesses for a persuasive project. They get to create facebook pages and twitters to aid them setting up and promoting their business.

Last year, my students were already using stupeflix and prezi. Both of which I thought were very useful and creative! Loved them both for the projects my students used them for. 

These tools can be incorporated into my classroom for reviews, examples, and entertainment during lessons. The comic strip would be a cute way to reexplain things to my students. My students could use ANY these tools to create and show their understanding of a concept. They could create a comic strip to show their understanding of the communication process. The could use stupeflix to show a movie of different facial expressions. I think these tools could very easily be incorporated into my classroom this next semester.
